Drixoral is an over the counter medicine that is use to treat certain allergy. It has been found to lead to conditions like cold, itchy and watery eyes, running nose, nasal congestion, sinus and frequent sneezing. Most commonly it is used against cold and sinus. Drixoral contains 6mg of Dexbrompheniramine Maleate and 120mg of Pseudoephedrine Sulfate. Other ingredients in the medicine are calcium sulfate, butylparaben, mag, lactose and gelatin.

How does Drixoral work?

Drixoral is an antihistamine and decongestant drug. The Dexbrompheniramine in the drug reduces the histamine in the body. Pseudoephedrine shrinks the blood vessels in the nasal passage. Histamine is an enzyme that stimulates secretion of certain gastric juices. It also dilates capillaries, helps in construction for smooth muscles found in bronchia and suppressors blood pressure. It is also known to cause allergic reactions in human. By suppressing the working of histamine, Drixoral helps fight the cold and allergy caused due to it.

Dosage

Drixoral should be taken as instructed on the label or as prescribed by your doctor. Do not use Drixoral if you have used any of the MAO inhibitors in past 14 days. MAO inhibitors include isocarboxazid, phenelzine, rasagiline, selegiline, or tranylcypromine. It is not to be given to very young children. Make sure you let your let your doctor know before starting with Drixoral if you are pregnant, planning to be pregnant or lactating mother. Do not drink alcoholic drinks as they tend to aggravate the side effects that Drixoral is known to cause.
